ClamWin Free Antivirus is a graphical front-end to the ClamAV anti-virus software. This program is replacing
proprietary anti-virus software and is one of the major software programs that should be using every day. It uses installer and open source code. The program has high detection rates for viruses and spyware. It has scanning Scheduler and automatic downloads of regularly updated Virus Database. ClamWin Free Antivirus has a standalone virus scanner and right click menu integration to Microsoft Windows Explorer. It has add-in to Microsoft Outlook to eliminate virus-infected attachments automatically without any intervention from the user and is based on Clam Antivirus engine. The program does not include an on-access real-time scanner and you need to manualy scan a file in order to detect a virus or spyware. It has the option Display Infected Files Only and when ClamWin is running a scan it displays the names of the files as it scans them.
ClamWin Free Antivirus will only display the names of files that have been detected as infected and has the option Scan In Subdirectories. It has Infected Files option that determines what action ClamWin should take if it detects a virus. The program has the option Report Only where it reports that a virus was found and will permanently delete the infected file. If the option Move To Quarantine Folder is selected the program will move the infected file to the designated folder. ClamWin Free Antivirus can be configured to scan only certain types of files, or to ignore certain types of files and those two can be combined to give greater control over what types of files are scanned. When the option Enable Automatic Virus Database Updates is selected it will automatically check and download database updates.
