Sentinel is a program designed to help you locate and terminate various viruses and trojans. It is more like a suplement to your existing anti-virus programs and comes with three major tools to help make it easier for the everyday user to keep their system free of viruses. The program reduces the risk of infection or even re-infection by monitoring your most important system files for changes. Sentinel looks for new files or any slight change in system files, executables or other core component files in your system folders on startup or shutdown. It includes AppWatch that shows all running windows and you will be able to close the desired application directly from AppWatch. The program has RegWatch which displays all application that are loading at startup using the Registry. You can view loaded applications, scan them for viruses and even delete those Registry entries with extreme ease.
Sentinel has Integrity Checker that is the program's most effective utility. It is an advanced system file verifier that uses a CRC32 Algorithm (Cyclic Redundancy Checksum) to verify your system files and make sure they haven't been modified. A CRC32 check will produce a digital 'fingerprint' of any file. Any size files will be reduced to a small code that represents the whole file. If the file changes, it will produce a new finger print. If you suspect a Virus or Trojan, first make sure that you are familiar with the three tools that Sentinel offers and start with a Full Scan in the Integrity Checker. The program will notify you if any files have been changed or modified. If no files Fail, then it is possible that the malicious program isn't executing or infecting files in your system folder. You must open RegWatch and scan every entry in the list by clicking on the 'Scan File for Viruses' button. If no viruses are found, open AppWatch and attempt to close any suspicious programs.
