Pack-X uses a file format unlike any other program and will not decompress files made by other similar programs. It cannot create compressed files that are compatible with any other program. The program creates self-extracting exe\'s, which can then be extracted on any Win32 compatible platform. It is recommended that you have backup copies of any files you compress with this product. Pack-X has a faster and better algorithm that should be out in the next version. This program and the Self-extracting archives that it creates, incorporate a self-verification mechanism. If even a single byte changes in the file, it will refuse to run. Programs can become corrupted durring file transfers. The verification ensures that the files extracted are exactly the same as they were when compressed.
Pack-X creates Compressed Archive and Self-extracting Archive. It shows you information about files contained in a compressed file and auto-detects certain directories which make it a nice choice for installing fonts and screen-savers. Pack-X uses a default extension of (*.raq) and decompresses any file it created regardless of the extension. It saves and restores relative path information and file attributes. If you drop an entire directory onto the view, when extracted that directory and sub-directories will be restored. You can add files and directories by dropping them from the Windows Explorer. Even a single byte error will render this program or the Self-extracting archives useless. It is recommended you use these archives for file distribution, not for backups.
